Applications of Small-Angle Optics

Narrow-angle optics are widely used in lighting applications, particularly in stage lighting to create intense “beam effects.” When combined with smoke effects, these highly collimated beams form clearly visible columns of light in the air, delivering a powerful visual impact. It also finds application in architectural floodlighting, precisely “sculpting” buildings by using narrow, small-angle beams to highlight specific structures like columns, eaves, and sculptures, thereby avoiding light pollution and energy waste. Additionally, it serves museum lighting, where small-angle spotlights precisely focus light on exhibits to create visual focal points.

However, small-angle optics present significant challenges. Achieving both a narrow beam angle and an excellent spot pattern has long been difficult to accomplish simultaneously. Moreover, small-angle lenses demand extremely precise installation; even slight misalignment can cause spot eccentricity and uneven illumination. In response to these constraints, we have invested substantial resources into innovative R&D for small-angle solutions.
